How do I get to Verona?

Verona is located in the centre of northern Italy, at the crossroads of important motorway and railway networks, and is easily accessible from the main Italian and European cities by various means of transport: train, car and bus, plane.

By train

Verona is located at the intersection of the Milan-Venice (west-east) and Bologna-Brenner (south-north) railway lines, with frequent trains running every hour. See TreniItalia website. 

The main railway station is Verona Porta Nuova. 

From there, you can easily reach the city centre on foot, by taxi or by bus. The IUSVE venue is a 30-40-minute walk from the station. Bus lines 30, 41 and 42 go to Verona Porta Nuova station (Marciapiede A) to Regaste San Zeno and Castelvecchio, near the IUSVE. The famous Piazza Bra, the square where the Arena is located and which often serves as a reference point, is a 15-minute walk from the IUSVE.

By bus

The city of Verona is well connected by major international bus operators from all over Europe:

Are you landing in Bergamo airport? You can reach Verona Porta Nuova railway station by bus via the Orio al Serio Airlink.

From the Verona Porta Nuova railway station, you can easily reach the city centre on foot, by taxi or by bus. The IUSVE venue is a 30-40-minute walk from the station. Bus lines 30, 41 and 42 run from Verona Porta Nuova station (Marciapiede A) to Regaste San Zeno and Castelvecchio, near the IUSVE. The famous Piazza Bra, the square where the Arena is located and which often serves as a reference point, is a 15-minute walk from the IUSVE.

By car

Verona is located at the intersection of the A4 “Serenissima”, Turin-Milan-Verona-Venice-Trieste motorway running east-west, and the A22 “Autostrada del Brennero”, Brenner-Verona-Modena motorway running north-south.

The motorway exits are VERONA EST and VERONA SUD on the A4 and VERONA NORD on the A22. 

The closest exit to the IUSVE venue is VERONA SUD, then follow directions to Castelvecchio.

Please note that 

  • There are numerous traffic and parking restrictions in the historic centre (ZTL). More information on the ZTL page of the Comune di Verona. 
  • Parking in the city centre is subject to a charge. Payment can be made at ticket machines or via an app.

By plane

Verona’s international airport is Aeroporto Valerio Catullo di Verona Villafranca (VRN). Check the airport’s website to find out which airlines fly there.

The airport is approximately 12 kilometres from the city centre. Located at the exit of the airport on the arrivals side, the Verona Airlink bus connection takes you just 15 minutes without any intermediate stops to the Verona Porta Nuova railway station. Other bus connections are available via ATV Verona.

How can I get around the city?

You can get around Verona easily by walking, as the historic center is compact and pedestrian-friendly, or by using the Verona bicycle-sharing service with stations located throughout the city (see Verona Bike), or the ATV bus system for longer distances (see  ATV Verona). There are also numerous self-service electric scooter services.

Where to eat in the city?

We’ve prepared an interactive map with some typical addresses for eating, drinking, and enjoying the city. All the spots are budget-friendly:
1-5 – Healthy food – salad, vegetables, juice
6-9 – Osteria/Trattoria with typical Venetian cuisine
10-12 – Pizza, Pasta

A little tip: “Cicchetti” are the Venetian equivalent of Spanish tapas or pintxos: small bites served on bread or in individual portions. They’re perfect for an aperitif or a light lunch.

What to visit in Verona?

Must-see landmarks

  • Arena di Verona: A remarkably well-preserved 1st-century Roman amphitheatre that still hosts concerts and opera performances today. It’s even older than the Colosseum and remains one of the city’s defining monuments.
  • Casa di Giulietta: This 14th-century house is famous for its balcony associated with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet legend. Visitors come to see the courtyard, statue, and love-letter wall.
  • Piazza delle Erbe: Once the Roman forum, today it’s a lively square surrounded by frescoed palaces, markets, and cafés. Perfect for soaking up the atmosphere.

Historic architecture

  • Ponte Pietra: The oldest bridge in the city, originally completed around 100 BC and rebuilt after WWII using original materials.
  • Ponte di Castelvecchio: A fortified medieval bridge of red brick spanning the Adige River beside Castelvecchio. It is very close to our venue!
  • Palazzo Maffei: A striking Baroque palace overlooking Piazza delle Erbe, now housing a large art collection spanning thousands of years.
  • Arco dei Gavi: A rare privately funded Roman triumphal arch that inspired Renaissance architects and was reconstructed in 1932.

What is there to see around Verona?

  • Parco Giardino Sigurtà: About 8–9 km from Verona, this award-winning naturalistic garden covers 60 hectares and is considered one of the most beautiful parks in Europe. 
  • Lake Garda or the city of Vicenza can be reached in less than 30 minutes by the fastest train.
  • The cities of Milan, Venice, Bologna and Florence are about an hour and a half away by the fastest train.
