About

Welcome to a gathering created by the community, for the community!

Beyond visuals” ISC26IT-EVP26IT – Verona (31 July – 2 August 2026)

For the first time ever, the International Sketchnote Community (ISC) and the European Visual Practitioners (EVP) are coming together to host one shared event in full BarCamp mode. A space to build strong connections, learn from each other, find inspiration and have fun.

You will find open minds, generous sharing and plenty of time to connect. This is not the kind of event where conversations are rushed, no quick chats after lunch and no skipped workshops. Instead, there will be space, time and good food to gather, catch up and build new relationships.

Our principles: authenticity, co-creation, no competition, creativity, generosity, respect, shared space and togetherness.

Why “Beyond Visuals”?

Because sketchnoters, graphic recorders and visual facilitators can go beyond markers. If we can draw, we can also build, shape ideas and make concepts tangible by using the same visual language beyond 2D.

Our hashtags: #ISC26IT #EVP26IT

What is the International Sketchnote Community?

The International Sketchnote Community (ISC in short) is an informal global network that has grown online since the early days of social media. What connects its members is visual thinking and a shared passion for visual note-taking, whether through sketchnotes, graphic recording or graphic facilitation.

The community is wonderfully diverse and open to all. Some members are hobbyists, some use visual thinking to support their daily work, and for others it is their main profession.

In 2017, four German women had the brilliant idea of launching a camp in Hamburg. The International Sketchnote Camp (also ISC in short), the first event of its kind, celebrated visual thinking by bringing the community together in person.

Since then, the camp has become a highly anticipated annual gathering, organised by volunteers in different countries. It strengthens the sense of belonging to a community that keeps growing every year.

Past editions have taken place in Hamburg, Lisbon, Paris, Brussels (online), Szczecin, Leiden, San Antonio and Birmingham (2025).

What are the European Visual Practitioners?

European Visual Practitioners (EVP in short) is a community of visual professionals based across Europe who connect and support each other.

We may use different labels, such as graphic recorder, visual facilitator, illustrator, visual coach, trainer, sketchnoter or visual thinker, but we all share a love for using visuals in our work. And yes, we are quite enthusiastic about markers.

As a community, we learn from our peers and create opportunities to meet through online and in-person events. Everything is organised on a voluntary basis, and we enjoy doing it.

Who are the organisers of the event?

The “Beyond visuals” ISC26IT-EVP26IT event is organised through an equal partnership between members of the ISC and EVP communities, under the attentive and benevolent leadership of Federica Tabone and Claudio Nichele, both active members of ISC and EVP.

Since the very first camp in Hamburg in 2017, International Sketchnote Camps have been volunteer-run, non-profit events created by the global community, for the global community.

What is a BarCamp?

A BarCamp, sometimes called an “unconference”, is a fluid, informal and participant-driven gathering. The agenda is not set in advance by organisers. Instead, attendees (that means you!) create the programme together on the day and often become the speakers themselves.

Key characteristics of a BarCamp:

  • At the start of the event, participants propose topics they would like to discuss or present. These pitches are then organised into a shared schedule for the event.
  • Everyone is encouraged to contribute by leading a session, asking questions or helping with logistics. There are no spectators, only participants.
  • Instead of formal keynotes, sessions are usually interactive discussions, workshops or show-and-tell demos lasting around 30–60 minutes.
  • Participants are free to leave a session if they feel they are not learning or contributing and can move elsewhere at any time, the famous Law of Two Feet.

Who can participate?

The “Beyond visuals” ISC26IT-EVP26IT event is open to everyone, whatever your level. However, space is limited and demand is high, so priority will initially be given to members of the ISC and EVP communities.

As the event format requires participants’ full attention and no dedicated facilities are available for children, we kindly ask that children not accompany participants.

For friends who cannot join us in person, occasional live moments may be shared via our Instagram account, although the sessions themselves will not be officially livestreamed.
